Q: I don't have a lot of church experience–will I fit in at Crossroads?
A:Good news! Crossroads was designed for you! We give page numbers for our free paperback Bibles when we read together from the Bible so that you can follow along, the Sunday morning teaching is completely understandable to newcomers, and we won't single you out on your first day. If you do want to get to know us right away, we have a ten-minute party right after each service so you can ask questions and meet our staff. Questions before you visit us? Click here to e-mail us a question or call our church office at (860)872-1154. Q: What can I expect at the Sunday service? A:A laid-back atmosphere with casual dress, coffee breaks, interactive and relevant teaching, fun and interactive learning formats for the kids, a worship band that plays new songs in a pop/rock style, and a chance to connect with God during communion each week. Q: Are you connected to a denomination? A:Crossroads is part of a denomination called The Christian & Missionary Alliance, which includes many different styles of churches. Started in the late 1800s as a loosely connected group of churches from numerous denominations like Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, Congregational and others, its original purpose was to band together to send practical help and spiritual hope to the unexplored corners of the globe. It did not form as an official denomination until the 1970s, and now has more members overseas than in the United States. For more information about the C&MA, visit the denomination's website Q: Why do you meet in a school? A:Crossroads was started "from scratch" with the intention of being a church for people who weren't already going to a church. Budgetary concerns are part of the reason for renting space right now but not because we can't get a building. Crossroads is committed to being connected to the community and remaining in public buildings is one way to do that. It also frees up funds to donate to the community and to benevolence around the country and around the world. Q: Will you ever have your own building? A:Someday we might build a building but never one that's exclusively a "church." If we have our own space, it will be open for the use of the community as well. That won't be for quite a few years yet, though. |
