Small Groups at Crossroads

For too many years, the church has operated like a machine rather than a body. All too often, Christianity has been reduced to a series of rituals and obligations that was daunting at best, and at worst, soul-crushing. What we really need to make it in this life is a group of friends with whom we can live the Christian life. As more and more Christians rediscover the principles and vitality of authentic Biblical community, vibrant life is rushing into the church. What was once dull and mechanical is becoming dynamic and inspiring as millions of people truly connect with one another and find a place where they can be real and open about their spiritual challenges and successes.

At Crossroads, one way to experience connection is through small groups. We believe that following Jesus is about much more than saying certain prayers, or doing good deeds—it’s about developing relationships, with God and with each other. And, as always, the only way to build relationships is to invest time and energy—to be interested and involved in each other’s lives, to be real with each other about our daily struggles and successes, to support and encourage each other.

We’ve found that small groups–informal gatherings of 10-15 people outside of church (usually in homes) during the week–are ideal for fostering this kind of connection. Though often centered on a particular subject or theme–a book of the Bible, a study guide, or even applying the previous Sunday’s message–these meetings are more than just Bible studies. They are opportunities to get to know other members of Crossroads, to ask tough questions in a safe environment, to get out into the community to serve, and to learn how to put God’s word into practice, not just talk about it. And they are places to have a lot of good conversation and fun!

We currently have a growing number of small groups meeting in Vernon and surrounding communities. Some of them are short-term groups with a set start and stop date, while others are on-going so you have the option of what kind of commitment you'd like to make—but all are open to newcomers!
